Patriot netters earn another victory (04/17/07)

FRANKTON - All the offseason work has paid off.
Jay County's girls tennis team managed just four regular-season wins a year ago before rallying to the sectional championship match. After Tuesday's 4-1 victory over the Frankton Eagles, the Patriots are already 3-1 this year.
Cindy Muhlenkamp and Megan Knittle set the pace for Jay County at No. 2 doubles. They clobbered Katie Coryell and Carissa Ward, 6-2, 6-0.
Carissa Wilkins continued her hot start, winning her second straight match since moving to No. 1 singles. She scored a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Taylor Rhoades to improve to 4-0.
Jenna Valentine and Megan Adams completed the singles sweep, both rallying after first-set losses. Valentine defeated Tiffany Marling 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 2, and Adams knocked off Megan Bolt 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 at No. 3.
The only loss for the Tribe came at No. 1 doubles, where Jessica Muhlenkamp and Megan Huntsman forced a third set before falling 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
Junior varsity
Led by wins at No. 1 and No. 2 singles, the Patriots scored a 5-3 victory over Frankton.
Briann Saxman finished with a shutout at No. 2 singles, topping Ashtin Stewart 8-0. Heather Ayers defeated Kylie Graham 8-5 in the No. 1 singles match.
Other winners for Jay County were Mariah Clark and the teams of Mizuki Saito and Michelle Landfair, and Becky Muhlenkamp and Brittany White.[[In-content Ad]]
