JCHS boys tennis

One more to the record.

Jay County’s boys tennis team gave itself a chance to tie the school record for wins Thursday as it defeated the Adams Central Jets Tuesday, 4-1. The Patriots (9-2) will play at Winchester Thursday with a chance to tie their single-season wins record of 10 which was set in 2002.

Randy Evans and Tyler Rigby were dominant again at No. 1 doubles. The duo improved to 12-2 on the season, the best record on the team, by rolling over Alex Lengerich and Justin Kable 6-0, 6-0.

Josh Ludy made it two in a row after scoring his first home victory Monday. He blasted Dan Kaehr 6-0, 6-2 to move to 8-6 on the year at No. 2 singles.

No. 3 singles player Phil Powell climbed above .500 as he won in a tiebreaker for the second consecutive night. He fought off Ethan Fiechter in the extra session for a 6-4, 2-6, 7-6 (9-7) win and is now 7-6 on the season.

Heath Rigby and Thomas McCowan also turned in a three-set win. They defeated Jared Grandlienard and Dusty Garwood 6-3, 3-6, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles.

The lone defeat for Jay County came at No. 1 singles, where Kurt Hess lost for just the third time this year. He slipped to 11-3 with a 3-6, 6-2, 7-5 loss to Brandon Barger.

Jay County managed just one junior varsity victory with Jason Crouch and Adam Horn teaming to beat Kyle Andrews and Landon Wheeler 7-6 (9-7) at No. 2 doubles.

The Patriots dropped all three singles matches with Crouch falling to Nathaniel Aschliman 8-3 at No. 1 singles, Horn losing 8-5 to Danny Dowler and No. 2 singles and Heare going down 8-2 to Albert Andrews at No. 3 singles.

Crouch and Heare played a close match at No. 1 doubles, but lost 8-7 (9-7) to Jon Kuntzman and Adam Gerber.[[In-content Ad]]
