Patriot Spikers place fourth

NOBLESVILLE — The Jay County High School volleyball team placed fourth Saturday at the Noblesville Invitational.
After completing pool play 2-1, the Patriots lost the third-place match to the Plainfield Quakers 25-17, 25-14.
Jay County (7-9) dropped the first match of the eight-team tournament to the host Noblesville Millers 25-9, 25-20, but the Patriots recovered to win their next two matches against Union County Patriots (25-18, 28-26, 15-9) and the Southmont Mounties (25-23, 22-25, 15-9).
The Patriots were 93.4 percent from the service line in the tournament, led by Lizzy Schoenlein’s 47-for-50 effort with four aces.
Kylie Osborne led Jay County with 22 kills, while Ava Kunkler added 18 and Bre McIntire tallied 15.
Faith Parr recorded a team-high 43 digs defensively for the Patriots while Malarie Houck added 25, Osborne had 23 and Abby Wendel notched 20.
Wendel and McIntire recorded 3.5 and 2.5 blocks respectively for Jay County.

JC boys tennis split
MUNCIE — The Jay County boys tennis team defeated the Muncie Southside Rebels 5-0 for the second time this season before falling 3-2 to the Connersville Spartans on Saturday in the three-team meet at Southside High School.
The Patriots’ No. 1 doubles team of Josh Lykins and Zach Pryor went 2-0 on the day, defeated Southside’s Dalton Evans and Joe Stanley 6-0, 6-0 and Connersville’s Devin Bailey and Lucas Zarate 6-0, 6-1.
The No. 2 doubles team of Alex Krieg and Evan Mathias also went a perfect 2-0, beating the Rebels’ Austin Ware and Brandon Ashcraft 6-0, 6-1 and the Spartans’ Cole Jones and Carter Jackson 6-0, 6-4.
Nick Leuthold defeated Southside’s Caleb Wilkins 6-2, 6-0 in No. 1 singles, and fell to Connersville’s Kayden Mathews 6-4, 2-6, 6-1.
In No. 2 singles, Jake Schwieterman defeated Southside’s Shyler Collins 6-1, 6-0 before falling to Connersville’s Daniel Beckner 6-0, 6-4.
Kody Degler defeated the Rebel’s William Porter 6-0, 6-0 in No. 3 singles, then lost to the Spartans’ Cooper McCann 6-4, 1-6, 6-2.

Fort golfers tenth
CELINA, Ohio — The Fort Recovery boys golf team posted a score of 360 for a 10th place finish in the Jordan Moeller Memorial golf tournament Saturday at the Mercer County Elks Golf Club.
Versailles won the tournament with a 327, edging out Celina by one stroke. Parkway placed third with a 331.
Elijah Kahlig led the Indians with a round of 82, while Kent Retz posted a 92. Chase Bruns and Derek Backs shot identical rounds of 93 for the Tribe, while Stewy Alig rounded out Fort Recovery’s top five golfers, posting a 101.
St. Marys’ Carter Bowman earned match medalist honors with a 2-under 70.
The Tribe returns to the links at 4:30 p.m. today as they host Coldwater.

WJMS 2nd, EJ 3rd
The West Jay Middle School eighth grade volleyball team went 2-1 and placed second at the West Jay Invitational Saturday at Jay County High School.
South Adams finished a perfect 3-0, while East Jay finished third.
After falling to the Starfires, the Eagles bounced back to defeat East Jay 25-18, 25-14 and Wes-Del 25-17, 25-20.
Hannah Ault led the Eagles with 10 service points, while MacKenzie Adkins added seven.
Kady Finnerty scored six service points for West Jay.
Kaylee Inman had a team-high four kills for East Jay, while Irene Braun led the Eagles with 15 digs and five points.

West Jay places 1st
The West Jay Eagles went a perfect 3-0 Saturday en route to the championship at the West Jay Invitational at JCHS. East Jay finished in second, going 2-1.
Shelby Caldwell led the Eagles with 44 service points. Randi Ferguson added 20 points and Rhegan Shimp had 16 for the Eagles.
Kameron Edwards and Kendal Garringer each recorded 10 points while Molly Ault added nine.
Gwen Omstead had a team-high 14 kills for the Chiefs, and Sarah Walter had seven.
Maggie Pryor tallied 14 aces for East Jay, while Walter added seven and Hanna Dillon recorded six.
