Patriot spikers win at Marion

MARION — The Jay County High School volleyball team went a perfect 3-0 Saturday to take home the tournament title Saturday at the Marion Invitational.
The Patriots defeated the Eastbrook Panthers 25-22, 25-17, the host Giants 25-23, 25-13 and the Fort Wayne South Side Archers 25-14, 25-9.
Kylie Osborne recorded team highs for the tournament in kills (17) and digs (18), and Abby Wendel added 11 kills. Faith Parr and Lizzy Schoenlein each had 13 digs, and Schoenlein added 61 assists and 18 service points. Bre McIntire was a perfect 18-for-18 from the service line.
Jay County ended the regular season with a 17-15 record and will open sectional play at 12:30 p.m. Saturday at Fort Wayne South Side against the winner of Thursday’s match between South Side and Wayne.

Patriots, Vikings split
The Jay County freshman and junior varsity football teams split with the Huntington North Vikings on Saturday.
Jay County’s freshman team defeated the Vikings 20-14 while the junior varsity squad fell 8-6.
Justin Crouch and Alec Lewis scored touchdowns for the freshmen Patriots, and Andrew Trewyn and Dylan Martin added sacks late in the game to preserve the victory.
Thomas Noble scored the only touchdown for the junior varsity Patriots, who lost their last four games of the season after starting 5-0.
The freshman squad finishes the season 4-3, as all three Patriot football teams finished their seasons with winning records.

Paquette leads WJ
DUNKIRK — Matthew Paquette led the West Jay Middle School cross country team Oct. 10 at Dunkirk City Park.
Monroe Central had runners place in all top five spots, earning a perfect score of 15 points.
West Jay and Union City did not post team scores.
Paquette crossed the finish line in 13 minutes, 5 seconds, for 13th place, 29 seconds ahead of teammate Ian McCombs.
Dustin Moles (15:07 – 19th) and Joey Littler (17:30 – 21st) were the No. 3 and No. 4 runners respectively.
Lexus Harding was the only Eagle runner in the girls’ race, placing sixth in 13:36.
