Patriot swimmers top Marion

Jay County roundup

Mary Hudson earned two victories Thursday as the Patriot girls swim team capped its fourth straight winning season with a 195-102 win over the visiting Marion Giants. The Jay County boys added a 163-129 victory.

Hudson was in control in both of her events, winning the 100-yard breaststroke by five seconds in 1 minute, 12.42 seconds. She took the 200 individual medley in 2:16.39.

Neal Fennig and Aaron Hudson added two wins apiece for the boys team (3-7). Fennig took the top spot in the 200 freestyle and 100 butterfly, and Hudson won the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle.

Other victories for the Patriot girls (9-4) came from Megan Taylor, Eme Miller, Jocelyn Mann and Martyna Gajewska. Trent Whitenack, Luke Holcomb and Jared Valentine added wins for the boys squad.

Gymnasts top Rebels

MUNCIE - Nadlie Runyon won two events to lead the Patriot gymnasts to a 97.375-82.975 win over the Olympic Athletic Conference rival Muncie Southside Rebels.

Runyon took the top spot on the balance beam with an 8.55 and floor exercise at 8.425. The senior was also third with an 8.45 on the vault.

Freshman Katie Snyder won the vault with a 9.1 and was also third on the bars (7.525), beam (7.85) and floor (7.875). Kristen Ainsworth added second-place finishes on both the bars (7.6) and floor (8.25), and Kyli Kelso tied with Snyder for third on the beam with a 7.85.

Freshman basketball wins

Jay County's boys basketball C team picked up a 26-21 win Thursday over the visiting Huntington North Vikings.

Tyler Back scored nine points to lead the Patriots, who are now 7-5. Evan Ryder and Alex Dunn scored five points apiece.

WJ 7th grade rolls

The West Jay Middle School seventh grade boys basketball team pulled away in the second half Thursday for a 44-17 win over Monroe Central.

Nate Brackman had 19 points and eight rebounds for the Eagles (14-2), who outscored Monroe Central 27-5 in the second half. James Williams totaled 13 points, and Case Retter added nine.

Chief wrestlers top W-D

GASTON - East Jay's wrestling team got 11 pins Thursday in a 78-27 victory over host Wes-Del.

Will Rowles had the quick pin of the evening, winning the 100-pound match in just 17 seconds. Other pins for the Chiefs came from Colton Compton (75), Alex Abbott (80), Mitchell Bruggeman (85), Conner Ray (90), Kaleb Toland (110), Michael Bruggeman (125), Preston Keen (135), Hunter Gillette (140), Zach Metcalf (145) and Ryan Claytor-Tinkham (152).

Brentt Lewis (175) and Eric Hemmelgarn (HWT) also earned wins for EJMS.[[In-content Ad]]
