Patriot tennis drops third straight to Central (05/05/05)

MUNCIE — Erin St. Myers is still on fire, but the Jay County girls tennis team is in the midst of another skid.
The Patriots lost their third straight match Wednesday, falling 4-1 to the Muncie Central Bearcats. This marks the second three-match losing streak for the team this year as it dropped to 4-6.
St. Myers accounted for Jay County’s only win of the night as she topped Kyle Hall 6-3, 6-1 at No. 2 doubles. She is now 9-2 and has won nine of her last 10 matches with the only defeat coming in the championship match at the DeKalb Invitational.
In other singles matches Whitney Schemenaur fell 6-0, 6-0 to Rachel Newman and Julie Sours lost 6-2, 6-2 to Julie Peresie. Chelsea Reff and Brianne Morrical dropped a 6-2, 6-3 decision to Trista Hardwick and Kellie Kuratko at No. 1 doubles, and Stephanie Homan and Carissa Wilkins dropped the No. 2 doubles match to Ashley Anderson and Darcy Miller 6-2, 6-1.
Jay County also dropped the junior varsity match to Muncie Central, 5-2.
Betsy Knittle and Cindy Muhlenkamp defeated Paula Truex and Shajanna Stump 8-0 at No. 2 doubles. Caitlin Dunn picked up the other victory 8-2 over Kat Coombes in singles action.
At No. 1 singles Angie Stults had her six-match winning streak broken by Whitney Ruble, 8-6.
In other singles matches, Tiffani Bickel fell to Emily Collins 8-0 and Megan Adams lost to Anne Meredith 8-2.
In doubles action Megan Knittle and Jessica Muhlenkamp took an 8-5 loss against Bailey Hall and Alex Ayers, and Heath Ayers and Katey Kohler fell by the same score to Shelbey Tillman and Chelsea Mitchell.[[In-content Ad]]
