Patriot wrestlers lose to MS

MUNCIE — The most experienced wrestlers came through for the Patriots, but they fell short against their former Olympic Athletic Conference rivals.
Jay County High School’s wrestling team picked up just four wins in contested matches Thursday, dropping a 48-27 decision to the Muncie Southside Rebels in its first dual match of the season.
Eric Hemmelgarn (HWT), a junior who finished third in the state last season, needed just 25 seconds to earn his victory. Juniors Zach Metcalf (160) and Jesse Finnerty (145) added wins by pin in 1 minute, 2 seconds, and 5:47 respectively.
Kyle Garringer (220), a senior and three-time semi-state qualifier, picked up his victory by a 14-9 decision.
The only other win for JCHS on the night came by forfeit from Colten Compton at 106 pounds.

JC freshmen fall
DECATUR — The Jay County freshman boys basketball team slipped to 1-1 Thursday with a 30-24 loss to the host Bellmont Braves.
The Patriots played even with Bellmont most of the way, trailing by just two at the half. However, they were outscored 5-0 in the third quarter and could not recover.
Bowen Runyon and Joey Springer each scored eight points for JCHS. Adam Dirksen added six.
Ryan Okoniewski was the only player in double figures as he tallied 10 points for the Braves. Grant Ainsworth and Ben Fullenkamp each scored six points.


Fort seventh rolls
CELINA, Ohio — Fort Recovery Middle School’s seventh grade girls basketball team destroyed the Celina Bulldogs 36-5 on Thursday. The eighth grade Indians lost, 32-19.
Grace Thien was the lone player to reach double figures for the FRMS seventh graders, finishing with 10 points. Kiah Wendel followed with eight points, and Claire Metzger scored six.
Whitney Will tallied more than half of the points for the FRMS eighth grade team as she finished with 10. Jocie Kaiser and Grace Gehle added three points apiece.

Northside defeats EJ
The East Jay Middle School eighth grade boys basketball team suffered its first loss of the season Thursday, 41-24 to visiting Muncie Northside. The seventh graders fell 17-14.
Dylan Martin finished with nine points for the Chief eighth graders, who are now 2-1. Jay Houck added six points.
Collin Haines totaled six points for the East Jay seventh grade squad (0-3). Ethan Myers had four points.[[In-content Ad]]
