Patriots 1-2 at Heritage invite (08/28/06)

MONROEVILLE - The Patriots stayed close in all three matches, but could only come away with one win at the Heritage Invitational Saturday.

Jay County's volleyball team defeated the New Haven Bulldogs 25-18, 27-25 in its final match of the day. Earlier it lost to the host Patriots 25-18, 25-19 and the Fort Wayne Canterbury Cavaliers 26-24, 25-19.

Seniors Theresa Reinhart and Jessica Muhlenkamp each had six points in the victory for the Patriots (3-6). Reinhart added six digs and two aces, and Muhlenkamp had five digs and three aces.

Junior Shelby Rines notched five of her team-high 10 kills on the day against New Haven, and Sarah Westgerdes added four kills and two blocks. Ashley Horn had seven points, and Erica Clark dished out 14 assists.

In addition to leading Jay County in kills, Rines was also the top defensive player with 26 digs in the three matches. She had 11 apiece against Heritage and Canterbury. She finished the day with 13 points, two blocks and one ace.

Westgerdes totaled nine kills and five blocks, and Clark finished with 32 assists. Reinhart had 22 digs and four aces, and Muhlenkamp added 21 points and four aces.

Fort JV victorious

FORT RECOVERY - The Fort Recovery junior varsity football team picked up a win in its first action of the season Saturday. The Indians defeated the Ansonia Tigers, 20-6.

Tribe golfers split

WINCHESTER - Fort Recovery's boys golf team topped one team and lost to the other at Winchester Golf Club Friday.

The Indians posted a 181 team total to finish behind the Fort Loramie Redskins (173) and in front of the Mississinawa Valley Blackhawks (199).

Aaron Kahlig and Scott Hein each had four pars as they led Fort Recovery with scores of 42 and 43 respectively. Scott Hoelscher of Fort Loramie took match medalist honors with a 40.

Kevin Schoenherr posted the lone Indian birdie as he shot 47, and David Schmitt finished the team score with a 49. Brandon Steinbrunner shot 51, and Dustin Grieshop had a 52.

Byrge third in heat

LEBANON - Kenny Byrge had an off night, but still holds a huge points lead.

Byrge, Dunkirk, placed third in his heat at North Track Raceway Friday, but failed to finish the feature race.

He is still well ahead of the field in the United Midget Racing Association point standings with 1,709. Ron Combs is a distant second with 1,492, followed by 2005 champion Terry Goff with 1,437.[[In-content Ad]]
