Patriots 15th in voting (11/19/2008)

Local roundup

INDIANAPOLIS - The Patriots made an impression. It just wasn't quite enough to get them in the top 10.

Jay County High School's girls basketball team was 15th in the Class 4A Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll voting this week.

After receiving no votes in the preseason poll, the Patriots put themselves on the map with a season-opening 52-33 destruction of then-Class 4A No. 7 Fort Wayne South Side. They also defeated Muncie Southside 86-42.

Fort Wayne South Side remained ranked, finishing tied for ninth this week with Perry Meridian. It bounced back to score wins of 59-54 over Class 3A No. 7 NorthWood and 61-56 in overtime over Penn, which was 12th in the Class 4A voting this week.

JCHS plays Bellmont Thursday - the game was moved up a day because the Braves' football team will play for a semi-state title Friday - and Class 2A No. 10 Winchester Saturday.
