Patriots 2nd at Hagerstown
JCHS girls golf
HAGERSTOWN - The second week of the season has been much better than the first. And now the Patriots will have some practice time to try to make another jump in week three.
Jay County High School's girls golf team turned in another solid effort Tuesday, finishing second in the Hagerstown Invitational at Hartley Hills Country Club with a score of 412.
The host Tigers (326) won the eight-team event, and Franklin County (420) was third.
The Patriots, who had just two days of practice before the season opener, had a tough first week as they finished ahead of just five of 24 opponents in three invitationals. But they bounced back to take fourth out of 12 teams at Monday's Marion Invitational before taking the runner-up spot at Hagerstown.
Abby Denney again led Jay County, which will play its first dual match at home Monday against Anderson Highland, with a score of 95 to finish fifth.
The junior posted a birdie on the 210-yard, par-4 second hole and added two pars and three bogeys on the front nine. She had four more bogeys and a par on the 398-yard, par-4 17th hole on the back.
Macey Gerber came through with the No. 2 score for the Patriots at 101. She shot 48 on the front nine with her lone par coming on the 128-yard, par-3 fifth hole.
Cara Garringer, a junior, recorded the only other birdie for the Patriots on the 296-yard, par-4 ninth hole. She added one par en route to shooting 103.
Brittany Stevens played the 403-yard, par-5 opening hole at even par on the way to a 113. Whitney Gray also had one par in her round of 128.[[In-content Ad]]
