CONNERSVILLE - The Jay County High School girls golf team finished seventh out of 11 teams Saturday at the Connersville Invitational.
The Patriots scored a 449 at Willowbrook Country Club to finish six strokes back of sixth-place Centerville. Indianapolis Cathedral won at 350, 13 strokes ahead of the runner-up host Spartans.
Abby Denney was the only JCHS player to break 100. The junior shot 47 on the back nine at Willowbrook to finish at 99.
Macey Gerber followed with a 111, and Cara Garringer shot 111.
Brittany Stevens rounded out the JCHS team score at 129. Alysia Fennig shot 141.
Netters 7th at invite
DEKALB - Tylor Smith was the only Patriot to pick up a win as the boys tennis team tied for seventh out of eight teams at the DeKalb Invitational.
Smith split time with Joe Imel at No. 3 singles, finishing 1-1. He rolled over Shawn Stahly of Northwood 6-0, 6-0 before falling to Matt Helmkamp of DeKalb in the fifth-place match.
Jared Valentine and Bradley Leuthold went 0-2 at No. 1 and No. 2 singles respectively. The No. 2 doubles team of Seth Ainsworth and Chance Fuller and No. 2 team of Austin Cowan and Jordan McBride also finished with 0-2 records.
Cowan and McBride played a pair of close matches, winning the opening set against West Noble before losing in a super tiebreaker. They split two tight sets in their second match before again suffering a super tiebreaker defeat.[[In-content Ad]]
