Patriots, Bearcats finish in tie

MUNCIE - The Patriots posted their fourth shutout of the year Thursday. But so did Muncie Central.

Jay County High School's girls soccer team finished in a tie for the first time this season, playing 80 minutes of scoreless soccer against the host Bearcats.

The Patriots (4-8-1), who have been blanked eight times, came up with more scoring opportunities as they had eight shots on goal compared to five for Central. Loryn Horn had half of Jay County's six second-half shots on goal.

Kayla Phillips and Lindsay Moser each had two shots in the game, and Brittany Manor added one.

Goalie Mollie May rejected all five Bearcat attempts.

Jets top SA spikers

MONROE - The South Adams volleyball team lost 25-16, 25-13, 25-15 Thursday to the Allen County Athletic Conference rival Adams Central Jets.

Taylor Farlow had six blocks, six digs and two aces in the defeat.

Kassy Potts totaled nine digs.

The Starfires also dropped the junior varsity match 25-18, 25-7.

EJMS gridders win

MUNCIE - East Jay Middle School's eighth grade football team fought off Muncie Northside for a 14-8 victory Thursday.

Ryan Tinkham and Jason Houston each scored a touchdown for the Chiefs. The team is now 5-1.

Gerber places 2nd

MODOC - Miranda Gerber turned in the top finish for the West Jay Middle School cross country teams as the lone Eagle runner in the girls race. The boys team lost 23-32 to host Union (Modoc).

Gerber crossed the finish line in second place in the girls race in 13 minutes flat.

Kyler Carvel paced WJMS in the boys race in third place at 11 minutes, 46 seconds. Skylar Newsome was fifth in 12:59 ahead of Skyler Johnson (7th - 14:06), Darrian Bechtol (eighth - 14:28) and Alec Burchum (ninth - 14:46).

EJ 6th drops two

The East Jay Middle School sixth grade volleyball lost two matches Thursday to R.J. Baskett (Gas City), 25-9, 25-22 and 25-23, 25-18.

Hannah Lykins finished with nine points, six aces and two kills to lead the Chiefs. Abby Reier scored 11 points, and Kylie Osborne had two kills and two assists.[[In-content Ad]]
