Patriots blast visiting Knights (05/11/07)
Jay County baseball
The Jay County baseball team got back to normal Thursday.
After taking just its third loss of the season Tuesday against Wapahani and then topping Blackford by two runs Wednesday, the offensive dominance returned. The Patriots knocked home five runs in the first inning against the Northeastern Knights and kept on piling it on in a 14-3, five-inning victory.
It was the 11th time in 14 wins that JCHS has scored double-digit runs. Nine of those games have ended by the mercy rule.
Andy Hughes hit his first home run of the year to lead the Patriots (14-3). He also had a double as he drove in three runs and scored twice. Thomas McCowan was 3-for-4 with a double three runs and two RBIs, and Josh Selvey had a triple, two runs and two RBIs.
Tony McCowan finished with two hits and two runs, and Michael Jobe and Luke Goetz each scored twice against Northeastern (13-7). Josh Ludy and Rhett Retter had two RBIs apiece, and Aaron Bogenschutz finished with two hits.
Ludy earned his second win of the season, giving up just an unearned run on one hit in four innings. He struck out 10 batters.[[In-content Ad]]
