Patriots blew out Rebels

Jay County round up

MUNCIE — The Jay County girls soccer team scored early and often Saturday in a 12-2 rout of the Muncie Southside Rebels.
Ericka Reynolds started the onslaught just 57 seconds into the game, finding netting on a cross pass from Mariah Bailey. She added another goal 90 seconds later to give the Patriots a 3-0 lead.
Eleven different Patriots scored goals against the Rebels. Gabbie Mann, Carmen Lopez, Stormi Canterbury, Cydney Huey and Catherine Dunn all added first-half goals, giving Jay County a 7-2 halftime lead.
Scoring goals in the second half for the Patriots (4-5-4) were Mariah Bailey, Emma Laux, Maddie Bailey, Takoa Knight and Kayla Ferguson.
Amber Huelskamp, Sophie Bader, Mariah Bailey, Huey and Ferguson also added assists in the lopsided win.

Runners 2nd at Delta
MUNCIE — The Jay County girls cross country team had five runners place in the top 25 at the Delta Invitational on Saturday as the Patriots placed second for the third straight meet.
The Patriots’ team score of 83 was six points ahead of third-place Muncie Burris. Westfield won the 12-team meet with 22 points.
The Patriot boys placed 10th out of 12 teams.
Megan Wellman led the Patriot girls (50-4), crossing the finish line in 20 minutes, 19 seconds, for seventh place, while Abigail Johnson finished 12 seconds later in ninth.
Kellie Fortkamp (21:37 – 18th), Emi Minnich (22:14 – 24th) and Abbi Dunlavy (22:28 – 25th) rounded out the Patriots’ team score.
On the boys side, Michael Denney led JCHS, finishing in 38th place with a time of 18:58. Tanner Craw (19:39 – 47th), Jacob Nichols (21:03 – 65th), Chaz Carroll (21:25 – 70th) and Dustin Bricker (22:02 – 74th) rounded out the top five.
The Patriots’ final meet of the regular season is 9 a.m. Saturday as they host the Jay County Invitational.

EJMS sweeps Dennis
The East Jay Middle School cross country team swept the Richmond Dennis Red Devils on Thursday.
Kendra Muhlenkamp crossed the finish line first in 13 minutes, 52 seconds, to lead the Chiefs to a perfect team score of 15. Richmond had a team score of 40.
Cheyenne Liette (14:58 – second), Breea Liette (14:59 – third), Alex Bader (15:01 – fourth) and Kristy Alig (15:04 – fifth) were the top runners for East Jay.
Brayden Sprunger (14:01) placed second to lead the sixth grade boys to a 23-32 victory over the Red Devils. Matthew Minnich (14:26 – third), Mason Winner (14:35 – fourth), Brian Newman (15:12 – fifth) and Ben Strausburg (15:39 – ninth) were the top runners for the Chiefs.
In the seventh and eighth grade boys race, Grant Keihn finished first for the Chiefs in 12:54 in East Jay’s 17-42 win. Alex LeMaster crossed the finish line two seconds later in second.
Skyler Myers (13:02 – third), Payton Heniser (13:43 – fifth) and Dylan Harris (13:47 – sixth) rounded out the top runners for East Jay.[[In-content Ad]]
