Patriots climb two more (12/12/06)

Local roundup

Two more wins earned Jay County a two-position climb in the polls.

The Patriot boys moved up to sixth in the weekly Class 3A Associated Press poll released today. It was eighth last week before wins of 52-40 over Tipton and 82-42 over South Adams.

Jay County earned 123 polling points, 16 ahead of seventh-ranked Edgewood and 36 behind No. 5 Plymouth. The Patriots defeated Plymouth in the semi-state round of the tournament last season.

Defending state champion New Castle remained No. 1, earning 12 of 13 first-place votes and 258 out of 260 possible points. Evansville Bosse was second.

The top teams in the other three classes also remained unchanged with Indianapolis North Central first in 4A, Forest Park in 2A and Barr-Reeve in 1A.

Prior to this season Jay County had never been ranked among the state's top 10 in the multi-class system. It was last ranked in single class during the 1988 season.
