JCHS girls tennis
FAIRMOUNT - Jay County had a successful sectional tune-up Tuesday, winning its final regular-season match 4-1 over the Madison-Grant Argylls.
The Patriot girls tennis team rolled in both No. 1 matches en route to the victory over Madison-Grant, a potential sectional championship opponent. JCHS, which has advanced to the sectional finals six straight times but hasn't won a title since 2001, will open tournament play at Marion against Blackford Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
Carissa Wilkins clobbered the Argylls' Katie Croaff, scoring a shutout in the first set en route to a 6-0, 6-2 victory. Jessica Muhlenkamp and Tiffani Bickel also gave up just two games at No. 1 doubles, topping Becca Carey and Steffania Powell 6-1, 6-1.
The No. 2 doubles pair of Megan Knittle and Cindy Muhlenkamp fell behind 4-1 in the opening set before winning five straight games as they took a 6-4, 6-3 win. Jenna Valentine dropped a first-set tiebreaker, but rolled in each of the next two as she was victorious by a 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-3 final.
Megan Adams took the lone loss for the Patriots at No. 3 singles, falling 6-2, 7-6 (7-0).
Junior varsity
The Patriots won all four singles matches in a 7-4 victory over Madison-Grant.
Brittany White and Becky Muhlenkamp paced Jay County with an 8-0 win over Maria Niverson and Kristin Stowers.
Other wins came from Heather Ayers, Hannah McAbee, Mariah Clark, Kayla Martin and the teams of Megan Huntsman and Briann Saxman, and Mizuki Saito and Michelle Landfair.[[In-content Ad]]
