Patriots defeat Delta (09/12/2008)
JCHS girls golf
One more round could match the school record.
With a 194-208 victory in its final home meet Thursday over the Delta Eagles, the Jay County High School girls golf team stayed on pace for the school record.
The Patriots improved to 9-1 overall with their fifth straight victory, and can match the record set last season if they can defeat Blackford and Southern Wells Tuesday.
Sophomore Cara Garringer led JCHS, which will play in the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament Monday, for the second straight match. She had pars on the 290-yard, par-4 fourth hole and the 119-yard, par-3 eighth to go along with three bogeys for a match medalist 47.
Katie Holdren had the top score for Delta with a 50.
The three remaining scorers for the Patriots all shot 49, which included a season-best round for senior Rachel Osterholt. She played even on both par threes and added four bogeys at PGC.
Her classmates Ivy Simons and Jennifer Hunt also shot 49. Simons played the first four holes at 2-over-par and had two pars and four bogeys overall, and Hunt finished with a par and three bogeys.
Abby Denney finished with a 50, and Alex Bunch shot 56.
Neither team played a full junior varsity squad, but Macey Gerber had pars on the eight and ninth holes to shoot 55 for JCHS. Brittany Stevens had a 59, and Megan Price shot 73.
