JCHS/SAHS girls golf
GENEVA - The Patriots could not have asked for a much better tune-up heading into their match-up with a state-ranked foe.
Career-best scores from a pair of seniors led the Jay County High School girls golf team, which hosts No. 4 Richmond Thursday, to a season-best score of 182 Tuesday at Wabash Valley Golf Club. That was more than enough for a victory over the host South Adams Starfires (210).
Jennifer Hunt posted a career-best score of 41 to lead the Patriots (4-0), who were just six strokes off of the school record they set last season. The top score for South Adams (3-5) was a 49 by Tricia Crider.
After a bogey on the first hole at WVGC, Hunt caught fire and parred the next four in a row. She added a fifth par on the 408-yard, par-5 eighth hole as she finished with five pars and three bogeys.
Ivy Simons also turned in the best score of her career with a 45. Her pars came on the 401-yard, par-5 second hole and on the 85-yard, par-3 ninth, and she also had five bogeys for a 45.
Cara Garringer, a sophomore, joined Hunt and Garringer in parring the second hole as she shot 45 as well. She also had pars on the seventh and eighth holes to go along with four bogeys.
Sophomore Abby Denney had four bogeys for a 51, and Rachel Osterholt followed with a 52.
The lone pars for Crider and Alyssa Neuenschwander (50) of the Starfires came on No. 9. Kara Lehman turned in the only birdie of the day on the 335-yard, par-4 fourth hole and also had a par on No. 1 for a 52.
