The 2010 season began just like the 2009 campaign ended.
Winning just one game overall, the Jay County High School boys tennis team dropped its season opener Tuesday 5-0 to the visiting Marion Giants. The Patriots also lost 5-0 to Marion in last season’s sectional tournament.
Derek Smith was the only JCHS player to win a gain as he fell 6-1, 6-0 to Kaman Tabor at No. 2 singles. In other singles matches, Brad Leuthold lost 6-0, 6-0 at Brandon Dubuque at No. 1 and Morton Garringer fell by the same score to Vinai Oddiraju at No. 2.
Chance Fuller and Drew Wood dropped their 6-0, 6-0 decision to Andrew Schoer and Advaith Srikanth at No. 1 doubles, and Joe Imel and Tony Schwieterman lost 6-0, 6-0 to Deray Boyd and Daniel Harrold at No. 2 doubles.
Jay County also dropped the junior varsity match 5-1 to the Giants.
Blake Boughman and Kody Degler came up with the only victory, topping Ted Fry and Steven Ngo 8-3. The Patriots lost each of the other four matches 8-0.[[In-content Ad]]
