Patriots end season with loss

CONVERSE — The Patriots will need to put their season finale behind them in a hurry.
Jay County High School’s boys soccer team closed its season Saturday with a 10-0 loss to the host Oak Hill Golden Eagles. The squad will be right back on the field at 6 p.m. today as it plays Muncie Central in the opening round of the sectional tournament at Yorktown Sports Park.
Jake Evans and Abram Rodriguez each turned in hat tricks for Oak Hill (12-2-1), with Evans scoring twice in the first half and Rodriguez twice in the second half. Austin Daugherty added two goals for the Golden Eagles.
Gerritt Taylor and Joel Garverick scored one goal apiece, Kevin Roorbach totaled four assists and Austin Anderson added two assists.
JCHS (8-8) managed just four shots on goal in the game, with Oak Hill goalies Nate Williams and Jace Martin each making two saves.

FR places seventh
CONVOY, Ohio — Fort Recovery’s volleyball team dropped its first two matches at Saturday’s Lady Knight Invitational hosted by Crestview before bouncing back to win the seventh-place match.
The Indians defeated Old Fort 25-15, 25-21 in their final match of the day. They lost 25-11, 25-18 to Division IV No. 2 Marion Local in their tournament opener, and then fell 25-18, 25-14 to Edison.
Schroer leads Tribe
FORT RECOVERY — Kyle Schroer scored twice on offense and then came up with a defensive touchdown Saturday to lead the Fort Recovery junior varsity football team to a 21-0 victory over the New Bremen Cardinals.
Schroer sealed the victory with a 99-yard interception return for a touchdown in the fourth quarter as the Indians improved to 4-2. He also caught TD passes of 61 yards in the second quarter and 22 yards in the fourth from Darien Sheffer.
Wes Wenning ran in a two-point conversion, and Jackson Hobbs added an extra point kick.

Muhlenkamp is all-state
CARMEL — Kendra Muhlenkamp earned all-state honors Saturday as the East Jay Middle School cross country teams competed at the Indiana Middle School Cross Country Championships.
Muhlenkamp led East Jay to a 10th-place finish in the 27-team small-school division as the Chiefs scored 250 points. The EJMS boys team scored 600 points for 25th out of 29 teams.
Norwell won the boys competition with 78 points and the girls with 129.
Muhlenkamp broke the 12-minute mark as she finished 14th with a time of 11 minutes, 57.9 seconds. The top 25 runners earn all-state honors.
Sydney Mathias placed 65th for EJMS in 12:54. Alex Bader and Breea Liette each finished in 12:56 for 67th and 68th respectively, and Erika Kunkler was 90th in 13:10.
Alex LeMaster paced the East Jay boys in 90th place with a time of 11:45. Also running for the Chiefs were Dustin Bricker (140th – 12:14), Trevor Moeller (146th – 12:16), Skylar Myers (151st – 12:18) and Ethan Wendel (208th – 12:58).
Faulkners lead
Gabe and Quinn Faulkner led the way in scoring Saturday in Jay County Pee Wee Football.
Gabe Faulkner scored a pair of touchdowns to lead the Giants to a 24-0 win over the Bengals as four of the five games ended in shutouts. Quinn Faulker had two TDs in the Steelers’ 30-0 victory over the Dolphins.
Wyatt Geesaman and Kobe Bennett each scored once for the Giants, and Josh Crouch and Tarron Bentz had touchdowns for the Steelers.
Trey Castillo, Caleb Webster and Storm McLaughlin all scored TDs to lead the Chiefs to a 22-0 win over the Bears. Zarrin Cantu and Blain Daniels each scored for Union City in a 14-0 win over the Colts, and Armand Pigalo scored the only touchdown as Monroe Central 1 beat Monroe Central 2 6-2.
