Points came in bunches for Jay County in the field events. But they were hard to find elsewhere.

The Patriot girls track team swept the field events, but fell just short in a 62-61 loss to the Richmond Red Devils Tuesday. The boys team won three of the four field events, but fell 93-30 to Richmond.

Junior Sara Garringer and freshman Lindsey Current paced the field-event dominance for the girls team, each picking up a pair of victories.

Garringer owned the throwing events, edging teammate Cori Vormohr in both. She won the shot put with a toss of 28 feet, 101/2 inches and the discus at 77 feet, 113/4 inches. Jessica Cole followed Vormohr for third in the shot put.

Current went unchallenged in the high jump, winning by six inches as she cleared the bar at five feet even. Teammates Erika Hunt and Jessica Mosier were second and third respectively. The long jump victory for Current came at 14 feet, one inch, with Tequila Guntle in third.

Senior Joseph Vormohr picked up two of the three wins for the boys team. He was first in the discus at 144 feet, 41/4 inches and the shot put with a toss of 47 feet, 51/2 inches. Travis Theurer was third in the discus.

Freshman Dexter Shreve picked up Jay County’s other boys victory against the Red Devils, who were 12th in the most recent state poll, winning the high jump at five feet, 10 inches. Josh Glessner placed third.

The Johnson sisters accounted for the other two Patriot victories. Sophomore Amanda Johnson was first in the 400-meter dash in 1-minute, 5.36 seconds with Guntle second, and senior Alyssa Johnson won the 3,200 run in 12:29.38.[[In-content Ad]]
