FORT WAYNE — The world’s largest high school fieldhouse awaits the Jay County cheerleaders.
The Patriots finished fifth at the Indiana Cheerleader’s Association northern regional Saturday in the varsity Class 3A division. They will be in action again Saturday at the ICA state competition at New Castle High School.
Fort Wayne Bishop Dwenger won the regional title in Class 3A.
Swimmers open season
MUNCIE — The Jay County Winter Swim Team began its 2005-06 campaign Saturday at the Delaware Aquatic Club Invitational at Delta High School.
Jay County’s 8-and-younger girls dominated the event, posting eight victories, and Cori Vormohr added wins in each of her five races.
Annie Vormohr paced the 8-and-younger girls with first-place efforts in the 25-yard freestyle, 50 freestyle, 25 backstroke and 100 individual medley. She also teamed with Sophie Bader, Rhiannon Mills and Ashton Klopp to win both the freestyle and medley relays.
Bader added a victory in the 25 butterfly, and Mills won the 25 breaststroke.
Vormohr was the top swimmer in the 13-and-older field. She took first place in the 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley. Levi Hummel was first in the 8-and-younger 100 individual medley, 25 butterfly and 25 breaststroke, and Mary Hudson won the 11-12-year-old 50 breaststroke.
The 8-and-younger boys team of Hummel, Adam Young, Caven Schricker and Sok Vormohr took first in the medley and freestyle relays.[[In-content Ad]]
