HARTFORD CITY - The scores weren't quite as good as a day earlier, but they got the job done.

Coming off a second-place finish and team-best 190 for nine holes as hosts of the Olympic Athletic Conference tournament Monday, the Jay County girls golf team scored a couple of wins Tuesday. The Patriots posted a 212, which was good enough to defeat the host Blackford Bruins (229) and the Southern Wells Raiders (238) for a 6-6 finish in dual meets this year.

Junior Trisha Champ paced the effort with a 45, earning her match-medalist honors. Seniors Miranda Denney, Ashley Bunch and Brittany Lewis shot rounds of 54, 55 and 58 respectively to round out the team score.

Sophomore Ivy Simons finished with a 60.

Holly Musselman's 51 was the top score for Blackford, and Liz Towne paced Southern Wells with a 54.

NH edges SA golfers

GENEVA - The South Adams girls golf team stayed close Tuesday, but dropped a 215-220 decision to the New Haven Bulldogs at Wabash Valley Golf Club.

Amber Melick led the Starfires with a 50 on the front nine at WVGC, and Mara Gerber added a 53. Alyssa Neuenschwander shot 56, Taylor Miller had a 61 and Erin Steury finished at 72.

FR freshman top Tigers

CELINA, Ohio - Fort Recovery's freshman volleyball team narrowly avoided a third game Tuesday, finishing off the Celina Bulldogs 25-15, 27-25.

Josie Guggenbiller paced the Indian victory with team highs of 11 assists and 10 points. She also had two digs and one kill.

Carly Staugler scored eight points, and Emily May and Lorraine Shier each had three kills. Emily May paced the squad with eight digs, and Alyssa Brackman and Chelsey Leuthold each added three digs.

EJ volley tops Montpelier

East Jay Middle School's eighth grade volleyball team earned its second victory Tuesday, defeating Montpelier 22-25, 25-19, 15-10.

Abby Denney paced the Chiefs (2-3) with 10 points, including seven aces. Stephanie Schwieterman scored four of her five points on aces.

Tribe teams win first

VERSAILLES, Ohio - The Fort Recovery seventh and eighth grade volleyball teams each topped the Versailles Tigers for their first wins of the season Tuesday.

The eighth graders edged Versailles 25-17, 20-25, 25-23, and the seventh grade squad also won in three games. Both teams are now 1-5.

Holly Brunswick shared the team-high of five kills with Olivia Thien, and led the Indians with eight points. She added three assists and one dig.

Kendra Brunswick finished with 10 assists and seven points, and Haley Wilson also scored seven points. Barbie Link had four digs, and Holly Thien added one block.

Kylie Kahlig served the seventh graders to victory with 15 points, including eight aces. She also had three kills.

Olivia Schwieterman finished with eight points and one assist, and Ericka Lennartz had two digs.

St. Marys defeats WJ

Both of West Jay Middle School's volleyball teams came up on the short end Tuesday against St. Marys. The eighth graders fell 25-13, 25-18, and the sixth and seventh grade team suffered a 25-6, 25-11 defeat.

Kendra Younger had eight points and three aces to lead the eighth grade team, with six of the points coming in game two. Ashley Franklin scored all of her five points in the second game, and Winona Westlake finished with four points and two aces.

Shelby Louck scored three points in the second game to lead West Jay's sixth/seventh grade team. Krisha Barber, Laura Morrison, Megan Sawyer, Shelby Shirk and Haley Tomlinson each had two points.[[In-content Ad]]
