Patriots finish second (05/04/07)

JCHS boys golf

DECATUR - At least the weather was nicer than their first trip to Grey Goose.

The Patriots, who played at the course in blasting wind, rain and 30-degree temperatures at the April 14 Bellmont Invitational, returned Thursday for a split decision. The Jay County golf team posted a 184, 10 strokes behind the host Braves but well ahead of winless Bluffton (211).

Adam Gray, who shot a 1-under-par 35 on the front nine at Grey Goose during the invitational, led the Patriots (4-4) with a 44. Jared Fredt of Bellmont (5-2) was the only golfer to break 40, earning match medalist honors with a 38.

Gray picked up his two pars on the 524-yard, par-5 fifth hole and the 162-yard, par-3 ninth.

Jonathon Fennig also parred each of those holes, and added another on the 429-yard, par-4 fourth to finish with a team-high three. He scored a 48 to round out the Patriot score.

In between Gray and Fennig were Justen Moser and Kyle Cook, who each finished with one par, with scores of 45 and 47 respectively.

Luke Darby shot 52, and Chris Shannon finished at 60.[[In-content Ad]]
