Patriots finish tied for 6th

MUNCIE — The Jay County High School boys track team turned a pair of second-place efforts Saturday and finished sixth out of eight teams at the Muncie Relays.
The Patriots scored 34 points in the meet at Central to finish tied for sixth with Anderson. Kokomo scored 113 points to win the meet by 11 over the host Bearcats.
Junior Cade Price finished as the runner-up in the high jump, clearing the bar at 6 feet even.
Dylan Cope, Nick Leonhard, Austin Bentz and Brad Leuthold added a second-place finish in the 4x800-meter relay in 8 minutes, 49.7 seconds. The group also posted a time of 11:52.85 for third place in the distance medley.
Tyler Back finished third in the shot put at 47 feet, ½ inch.

SAMS falls short
BERNE — South Adams Middle School’s girls and boys teams lost to the visiting Adams Central Flying Jets by identical scores Monday, 79-30.
Olivia VonGunten was the lone double winner for the Starfires on the night. She took the top spot in the girls 800-meter run in 2 minutes, 48 seconds, and the 1,600 run in 6:11.
Caroline Kloepper finished first in the 200 dash in 29 flat, and Emma Rosswurm won the high jump with a leap of 4 feet, 10 inches.
Both of the victories for the boys team came in the field events, with Jared Grabau winning the high jump at 4 feet, 10 inches. Drew LeFever turned in a toss of 108 feet, 1 inch, to win the discus.

Eagle boys lose
DUNKIRK — Daniel Meranda paced the West Jay boys track team Monday, but it fell just short in a 54-46 loss to the visiting Southern Wells Raider.
Meranda controlled the sprints for the Eagles, winning the 100-meter dash and 200 dash. He also led WJMS to victory in the 4x100 relay.
Andrew Trewyn finished first in the 110-meter hurdles, and Tanner Craw won the 400 dash. West Jay was also first in the 4x400 relay.[[In-content Ad]]
