Patriots golden again in win over Oak Hill (12/14/06)

JCHS wrestling

CONVERSE - The "golden" birds might want to avoid Jay County from now on.

Two weeks ago the Patriot wrestling team handed the Winchester Golden Eagles just their second loss of the season. Wednesday night, it hammered the Oak Hill Golden Eagles 49-22.

The victory continued a solid start to the year for Jay County, which is now 10-5 and has four wrestlers with two or fewer losses.

Leading that pack is sophomore Casey Kenney (103), who kept his perfect record intact. He picked up one of the Patriots' six pins, finishing off Myles Dennis in 1-minute, 47 seconds, to improve to 15-0.

Senior Tom Smith (189) also won by a fall, pushing his record to 13-2 with a triumph in 4:41 over Jared Jenkins.

Cameron Pfeifer (112) and Josh Lochtefeld (119), who both have just one loss on the year, each won by decision. Pfeifer moved to 13-1 by topping Chandlers Staggs 14-11, and Lochtefeld is 7-1 after beating Nate Linna 12-8.

Those wins were all part of a Jay County domination of the extremes as the team won the five lightest weight classes as well as the four heaviest.

The big guys all won with pins, with Baxter Holdcroft (HWT) finishing off Trent Sheares in just 31 seconds. Sha White (171) beat Bob Davis in 2:31, and Zach Ainsworth (215) defeated Cole Lodge at 3:04.

Ben Theurer (130) added another pin in 1:59 as he defeated Taylor Freeman, and Caleb Culy (125) scored an 18-9 major decision over Brady Hovermale.

The other Patriot victory came from Aaron Brenner (145) in a 13-7 decision over Kyle Pale.

Dropping matches for Jay County were Skylar Finnerty (135), Keri VanSkyock (140), Alan Brown (152) and Justin Mann (160).
