Patriots grapplers sixth at Garrett

GARRETT — The Jay County High School wrestling team placed sixth Saturday at the Garrett Invitational in its last tournament before it hosts the sectional tournament Feb. 1.
The Patriots had a team score of 150, 1.5 points behind the host Railroaders. East Noble won the invitational with 251.5. Leo (203) and Wayne (181.5) placed second and third respectively.
Eric Hemmelgarn (HWT) was the lone Patriot to earn first-place honors as the senior is still undefeated on the season. He pushed his record to 30-0.
Donnie Miller placed third in the 220-pound weight division. Alex Abbott (113), Conner Ray (126), Jesse Finnerty (152), Levi Hummel (160), Andy Kohler (170) and Cory Robertson (195) all finished fourth.
Dallas Dudleston placed sixth at 132.

Miles, Outcalt 1st
INDIANAPOLIS — Hannah Outcalt and Courtney Miles both placed first in the all-around competition to lead a group of Jay County gymnasts who competed Saturday and Sunday at the Indiana Gymnastics Festival at Washington High School.
Outcalt won the Level 2 seniors group with a career-best 9.45 on the floor exercise. She also finished first on the balance beam and uneven bars with scores of 9.5 and 9.35 respectively, and added a seventh-place finish in the vault for an all-around score of 37.1, another career best.
Miles posted the top score in the Level 7 all ages group on the vault, beam and floor, and placed second on the bars. She totaled an all-around score of 35.925.
Halle Hill posted a 8.275 on bars for first and 9.0 on floor for second. Her all-around score of 35.5 was second behind Miles.[[In-content Ad]]
