Patriots' JV tops Winchester (01/24/04)

Local Roundup

The Jay County junior varsity boys basketball team trailed by two with seconds to play in the third quarter, but caught fire on the way to a a 48-43 victory Friday.

Scott “Scooter” Bruggeman didn’t look like he would even get a shot off, but managed to hit a floating 12-footer just before time expired in the third quarter. He was fouled on the play, and buried a free throw with the court cleared for a 27-26 Patriot lead.

His teammates took the reigns after that, with Tyler Dunnington nailing a 3-pointer from the right win. Cory Locke tossed in another 3-point play with a lay-up and free throw, and Randy Evans drilled another 3-pointer moments later.

By the time Winchester finally scored 2:30 into the final period Jay County had built a 10-point lead and never let it go.

Dunnington paced Jay County with 14 points, and Bruggeman finished with 11. Zac Green scored nine points, and Locke scored all of his six points in the fourth quarter.

Brody Tarter had a game-high 15 points for the Golden Falcons. Clayton Reinhart scored 13 points.

Fort results delayed
