BLUFFTON - The girls stayed perfect. The boys won their opener.
Jay County High School's swim teams each came away victorious Tuesday as siblings Sam and Eme Miller, and Cori Vormohr, each won a pair of events. The Patriots girls improved to 3-0 with their 109-77 triumph while the boys kicked off their season with a 106-79 win.
Eme Miller led a pair of one-two finishes for the JCHS girls, taking the 100-meter butterfly by nearly five seconds ahead of teammate Briann Saxman in 1-minute, 18.62 seconds. The freshman was first in the 400 freestyle by 12 seconds at 5:34.91 with Caitlin Ruchgy second.
Vormohr kept her undefeated streak in tact, starting with a dominating 15-second win in the 200 freestyle at 2:23.87. She was also first in the 100 breaststroke in 1:21.85.
Sam Miller matched his sister, also leading a pair of one-two efforts. He teamed with Neal Fennig to take the top two spots in the 200 individual medley, winning the race in 2:23.5. The senior also won the 100 butterfly in 1:01.69 with Aaron Hudson second.
Jay County also scored a pair of diving wins, with Steven Kelly taking the boys event with 208.95 points. April Acker was first in the girls at 168.75, barely holding off teammate Megan Taylor (168.3).
Mary Hudson turned in the other individual win for the Patriot girls, taking the 100 backstroke in 1:16.99 with teammate Aly Miller second. The team was also first in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.
The Jay County boys swept the 50 freestyle with Chance Milligan holding off teammate Derik Lucas by 12 hundredths of a second in 28.46. Lance VanSkyock was third in 29.27.
Fennig won the 100 backstroke in 1:12.73 with Wiley Young as the runner-up. Aaron Hudson took the 100 breaststroke by nearly 10 seconds in 1:15.26.
The Patriots were also first in all three relays.
