Patriots knock off Southside (12/04/2008)

MUNCIE - Four pins lifted the Jay County High School wrestling team to a 44-27 victory Wednesday over the Muncie Southside Rebels.
Freshman Matt Seagraves scored the quickest victory for the Patriots, who improved to 5-3. He pinned Sebastion Brown in the 103-pound match in just 43 seconds.
Jay County's big men took care of the other pins, with Kyler Blowers (HWT) finishing off J.R. Scott in 1-minute, six seconds. Sha White (171) finished his match against Chris Daugherty just before the first-period buzzer with a pin in 1:55, and Andrew Lancaster (189) defeated Corey Bigtree in 2:53.
Casey Kenney (119) and Cameron Pfeifer (135) each finished their matches with technical falls, and Caleb Culy (130\) won by major decision. Ben Theurer (145) and Dylan Derrickson (145) each won by decision.
The Patriots won the junior varsity match 24-0 with pins from Nick Leonhard (135), Mason Murphy (152), Frank Sammons (160) and Zach Ainsworth (189).

DUNKIRK - West Jay Middle School's seventh grade girls basketball team kept its perfect record in tact Wednesday with a 19-12 victory over Cowan. The eighth grade team picked up its first win, 21-16.
The Eagle seventh graders trailed early, but rallied to improve to 4-0. Betsy Huffman led the scoring with six points, and Ashley Motter added five.
Shelby Shirk put in 11 points for the eighth grade team (1-3). Megan Price added four points.[[In-content Ad]]
