ANDERSON - Perhaps some of the voters forgot about the Patriots after their week off. If so, the Jay County High School girls basketball team provided a nice reminder.
JCHS, which had 10 days between games, dropped one spot to sixth in the Indiana Coaches of Girls Sports Association poll this week, but pushed their record to 17-0 Monday with a 64-47 win over the Anderson Indians.
The game was a picture of consistency for the Patriots, who scored 16 points in every quarter. They had an eight-point lead at the half and were up 14 after three quarters.
Different Jay County players took turns dominating the game, beginning with junior Lindsey Wellman. She scored all but four of her team's first-quarter points, totaling 12 of her 18 in the first period.
Senior Gina Muhlenkamp tallied all of her seven points in the second quarter.
The second half belonged to guards Pazia Speed and Kaelee Keller. Speed, a junior, had 11 of her 13 points after the intermission, and Keller, a senior, dropped in nine of her 11 after halftime.
Wellman recorded a double-double with 11 rebounds. Mackenzie Loy added six boards, and Speed dished out five assists.
Jasmine McGhee and Bryesha McCullough each tallied 14 points for the Indians (5-15).
Jay County earned 68 points in the ICGSA poll released Monday, putting it nine points behind No. 5 Fishers (18-2) and four ahead of seventh-ranked Plainfield (16-1). Ben Davis (21-0) remained No. 1 with 148 points.
The Patriots close the regular season Thursday at home against Delta. They are not expected to make up scheduled games against New Castle and Richmond.
Katie Butcher had nine points and Mariah Hornaday scored eight to lead the junior varsity team to a 46-14 victory.[[In-content Ad]]
