Jay to play Lebanon

The Jay County boys tennis team’s No. 1 doubles pair has learned its fate for this weekend.

The Patriot pair of Randy Evans and Tyler Rigby will play Lebanon in the first round in the doubles regional action. The teams will meet at Indianapolis North Central Saturday at 10 a.m.

Evans and Rigby (18-4) will play Lebanon seniors Joseph Swanson and Benjamin Hinds, who are 15-2 on the season. A victory by Jay County could set up a rematch against Bellmont.

With a win, the Patriots would play the winner of the match between Bellmont and Fort Wayne Canterbury Saturday at 2 p.m. for a berth in the state final four. They defeated Bellmont’s Adam Arnold and Mason Gage at this year’s DeKalb Invitational, but lost to the same pair in the regular-season finale.

Since that loss, Evans and Rigby have won five consecutive tournament matches. They defeated teams from Marion, Blackford, Northwestern, Wabash and Mississinewa to advance to this weekend’s regional round.[[In-content Ad]]
