Patriots rally vs. Winchester

WINCHESTER - Facing a two-games-to-none deficit is not a recipe for success.
Four times this year the Patriots have been in that situation, and each time they dropped the third game to finish the match. On Monday night, they fought back.
Jay County High School's girls tennis team rebounded after losing the first two games to dominate the final three for a 24-26, 17-25, 25-10, 25-16, 15-5 victory over the Winchester Golden Falcons.
Laura Castillo and Danielle Wellman led the defense for Jay County with 20 and 18 digs respectively. Wellman served 15 points and Castillo totaled 10 kills.
Kelsey Wood racked up 19 kills, and Ashley Langenkamp had 18 assists and three blocks. Hannah Ainsworth matched Wellman with 15 points, including four aces, and Mariah Hornaday and Maria Murphy each had three blocks.
The victory moved the Patriots record to 4-18. Three of those wins have come in the last 11 days.
Whitni Somers had 12 digs and five kills for the JCHS junior varsity team (8-4), which also rallied for a 22-25, 25-14, 15-11 win. Tanner Martin recorded 12 assists, Randa Gillespie had 11 points and Ashley Franklin finished with 10 kills.
Gridders win
CONNERSVILLE - Cody Bellis led the Patriots Monday as they defeated the Connersville Spartans 36-22.
Bellis rushed for a pair of touchdowns, and Dustin Tighe and Darren Jutte each had a TD reception.
Skyler Prescott picked off a pass and returned it for a touchdown, and Clark Snyder and Cory Bellis also had interceptions.
EJ spikers fall
SELMA - The East Jay Middle School sixth grade volleyball team lost twice Monday to Selma, 25-18, 25-24 and 25-16, 25-9.
Abby Reier paced the Chiefs on the evening with nine points, including three aces. Mallory Marshall scored five points with three aces, and Kylie Osborne added four points.[[In-content Ad]]
