Patriots reach double-digit wins (05/28/08)

MIDDLETOWN - After two years off, the Patriots are once again a double-digit win team.
The Jay County High School boys golf team topped Muncie Southside (184) and Daleville (266) Tuesday to earn its ninth and 10th wins of the season. It posted a score of 175 at Valley View Golf Course, pushing the team record to 10-3 in dual meets.
The Patriots won 13 matches in both 2004 and 2005 and were over .500 in each of the last two seasons, winning nine matches last year.
Adam Gray led JCHS to double digits, earning the lone birdie of the day. The junior played one-under on the 473-yard, par-5 11th hole, parred the 12th and 14th and closed with three consecutive pars for match medalist honors with a 39.
Dean Sylvester and David Clark led Southside and Daleville respectively with 41s.
Chase Wellman followed Gray for the Patriots in their season finale, picking up three pars in a stretch of four holes in the middle of his round for a 43. Justen Moser parred three of the final six holes for a 46, and Adam Horn had four pars in his round of 47.
Kyle Wellman shot 48, and Jonathan Fennig had a 50.
Jay County will compete in the sectional tournament hosted by Monroe Central at Hickory Hills Golf Course Monday at 9 a.m. The Patriots were eighth out of 12 teams last season playing at the tournament hosted by Huntington North at LaFontaine Golf Club.[[In-content Ad]]
