COLDWATER, Ohio - With one more victory, the Patriots will match the best season in the last decade.
Jay County High School's girls basketball team rolled out to a 20-point lead through three quarters Tuesday as it cruised past the Coldwater Cavaliers 56-46. Coldwater had just 27 points through the first three quarters.
Kaelee Keller scored 12 points to lead the Patriots, who are now 15-3. The best JCHS record in the last 10 years was 16-6 in 2004-05, and the best in school history was set at 20-3 in 1985-86.
Lindsey Wellman joined Keller in double figures with 11 points. She also had a team-best six rebounds.
Sharon Dirksen scored nine points, Abby Loy had eight and Brittany Mann finished with seven. Pazia Speed added six points, five rebounds and two assists.
Marla Hess and Kelley Lefeld each had 14 points for Coldwater (2-13). Hess scored nine of her points on three fourth-quarter 3-pointers.
Junior varsity
Jay County fell behind in the opening quarter as it fell 29-28 to the Cavaliers.
The Patriots trailed 9-5 after the opening quarter, and were still down by four at the half. They pulled to within two heading into the fourth, but fell just short of the victory.
Gina Muhlenkamp led all scorers with nine points for JCHS. Danielle Link added seven points.
