Patriots roll to another win

FOUNTAIN CITY - As their season comes to a close, the Patriots are playing their best softball.
With an 11-run fourth inning Thursday, Jay County High School rolled to a 16-1, five-inning victory over the host Northeastern Knights to give the team its first three-game winning streak of the season.
Brittney Watson had three hits, including a double and a home run, to lead the Patriots (9-13). She had two runs and three RBIs.
Danielle Wellman added two singles, a double, four RBIs and a run. The sophomore has gone 12-of-16 (.750) over Jay County's last five games.
Lexie Gierhart went 2-for-3 with three runs and two RBIs, and Rachelle Jackson drove in two runs and scored three times.
Selena McKibben finished 2-for-2, and Randa Gillespie scored twice as a courtesy runner for Wellman.
Rachelle Jackson, a freshman, earned her fifth victory, striking out seven batters in five innings. She allowed the one Northeastern run on two hits and two walks.[[In-content Ad]]
