Patriots set new records

WESTFIELD — The Jay County High School girls swim team continued its record-breaking pace from a year ago, setting meet and school records Nov. 21 at the Westfield Invitational.
The Patriots scored 354 points to finish in third place behind Fishers (660) and host Westfield (471).
Sophie Bader broke the meet and team records in the 100 butterfly, finishing in 59.3 seconds. The meet record was set in 2008.
Bader’s cousin, Anne Vormohr, swam to the meet record in the 100 backstroke with a time of 58.41 seconds, more than a second faster than the previous mark of 59.54.
The cousins teamed up with Katy Smeltzer and Ashley Mark in the 200 freestyle relay, improving the school record to 1 minute. 43.54 seconds, earning them a second-place finish behind Fishers.
Vormohr also earned a first-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a time of 53.55 seconds. Emily Moser (54.76) and Red DeBrosse (57.64) of Fishers placed second and third respectively behind Vormohr.

Bader also placed third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:09.77, behind Abbey Schneider of Fishers, who broke the meet record in 1:08.67, and Westfield’s Emily Verbrugge (1:09.47).
 
Stars still perfect
BLUFFTON — The South Adams girls basketball team had three players score in double digits Saturday to remained unbeaten, beating the Bluffton Tigers 53-33.
Sydney Willis had a game-high 17 points and Dzejna Ahmetovic chipped in 14 to lead the Starfires (4-0, 1-0 Allen County Athletic Conference), who are 4-0 on the season for the first time in school history.
South Adams led 24-8 after the first half. Bluffton cut the deficit to single digits in the third quarter, but the Stars used their post play to extend the lead as they scored 11 of the 19 fourth-quarter points in the paint.
Alyssa Bluhm added 11 points for the Stars, Sharon Balsiger had six and Cindy In’t Groen added three. Mackenzie Jennings also chipped in two points for South Adams.[[In-content Ad]]
