Patriots sweep Connersville

CONNERSVILLE — The Patriots continue to roll.
The Jay County High School softball team swept a doubleheader Saturday against the Connersville Spartans.
Catherine Dunn, who had three hits on the day, hit a solo home run in the top of the seventh of the first game to give the Patriots a 9-8 win.
In the second game, Jay County scored four runs in the top of the sixth and added one more in the seventh for a 5-1 victory to stay perfect at 4-0 on the season.
Courtney Finnerty paced the Patriot offense, racking up five hits, including one double, and a pair of RBIs in the first game.
Katie Aker, who had four RBIs on the day, and Dunn both had three hits, and Gabby Hart had two. Katlin Petro, Aker and Hart all hit doubles.
Larissa Boles got both wins in the circle for the Patriots to move to 4-0. She struck out a dozen and walked four.
Jay golfers 11th
YORKTOWN — The Jay County boys golf team placed 11th Saturday in the Yorktown Invitational at Yorktown Players Club.
Evan Mathias shot an 88 to lead the Patriots, who posted a team score of 366.
Sixth-ranked Pendleton Heights finished first with 313, No. 12 Indianapolis Cathedral was second with 323 and host Yorktown placed third with a 326.
Jay Houck, a freshman, shot an 89 in his first varsity match, and Zach Fullenkamp posted a 91. Austin Wendel turned in a score of 98 to round out Jay County’s team score.
Graham Haines also played for the Patriots, shooting a 108.
JC names cheer team
The Jay County High School cheerleading squad for the 2014-15 school year was announced following tryouts Friday.
Seniors making the squad were Morgan Brown, Bryttani Knight, Alexis Murrell, Carli Ostrowski and Chelsea Russell.
Juniors include Miranda Hibbard, Madison Miller, Sierra Trobridge and Menausha VanSkyock.
Sophomores include Cierra Brown, Leearah Eldridge, Kayla Ferguson, Alexus Liette, Samantha Link, Whitney Lowe, Kylie Ring, Madelyn Strausburg and Lauren Teagle.
Freshmen include McKenna Daniels, Sydnee Lee, Breea Liette, Nina McShane, Courtney Miles and Chloe Trissel.[[In-content Ad]]
