Patriots top Connersville

Local roundup

CONNERSVILLE — Even though the league no longer exists, the Patriots were happy to see a former Olympic Athletic Conference rival.
After dropping its first two games of the season, the Jay County High School girls soccer team picked up its first victory Tuesday 1-0 over the Connersville Spartans.
The Patriots (1-2), who also got their first win of the 2009 season against Connersville, tallied the only goal of the game with just under 11 minutes to go in the opening half. Senior Lindsay Moser connected on the shot, firing from the left side to the right corner of the net.
Mollie May, Jay County’s junior goalie, made that goal stand up, as she shut out the Spartans for the second straight season. The three-year starter finished with nine saves.
The Patriots also won the junior varsity game 4-1 with two goals from Cydney Huey and one each from Lauren Evans and Erica Reynolds.

Panthers top SA
MARION — The South Adams volleyball team slipped to 2-7 Tuesday with a 25-8, 25-21, 25-15 loss to the host Eastbrook Panthers.
The Starfires won the junior varsity match 23-25, 25-24, 15-6, and dropped the C-team match 25-14, 25-14.

Jay spikers fall
MONROE — The Class 2A No. 10 Adams Central Jets proved too strong for the Jay County volleyball team Tuesday, handing the Patriots a 25-12, 25-8, 25-20 defeat.
Mariah Hornaday finished with five kills and four blocks for JCHS (3-3), and Alyssa Rigby had seven digs. Sierra Weatherhead added six digs, Tanner Martin totaled five assists and Jen Dirksen scored three points.
Katie Aker had four points and three digs in the Jay County junior varsity team’s 25-12, 25-10 loss to the Jets.[[In-content Ad]]
