Valentine, who played doubles last season, bounced back after the first game to take a 5-2 lead in the opening set. He fought off a break point in the next game and then took the set when Southside's Tyler Reynolds sent shots into the net on back-to-back points.
In the second set Valentine was in control throughout, capturing each of the first four games on the way to his 6-2, 6-2 victory.
Austin Cowan and Jordan McBride played a dominant first set, breezing past Riley Shroyer and Dalton Arnold 6-0 in the No. 2 doubles match. They struggled at the open of the second set, falling behind 3-2, but got back on track to win the next four in a row for a 6-0, 6-3 win.
Brad Leuthold also trailed 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3 in the opening set at No. 2 singles before bouncing back for a straight sets victory. He won six straight games, closing out the first set when Jared Green hit a volley into the net and then grabbed a 3-0 lead in the second set.
Green fought back, but Leuthold was able to close him out as he took the match 6-4, 6-4.
