UNION CITY — The Patriots got their bats going in the fourth inning.
A night after getting shut out by Class 2A No. 3 Adams Central, the Jay County High School baseball team bounced back to score nine times in the fourth inning Tuesday on the way to a 14-1, five-inning victory over the Union City Indians.
Zach Pryor went 2-for-3 with a double, two runs and two RBIs for the Patriots in his first varsity game since suffering a concussion in the season opener. Toby McCallister had two hits and two RBIs, Jason Houston finished with two hits and two runs, Kyle Selvey scored four times and Tanner Reynolds totaled three RBIs.
JCHS (5-6) scored single runs in the first and third innings before breaking the game open in the fourth. It added three runs in the fifth for the final margin.
Wesley Hibbard improved to 2-0 on the mound as he struck out five batters while allowing a run on three hits in four innings.

Track places 2nd
CELINA, Ohio — Jay County got two wins apiece from Zane Shreve, Katie Snyder and Abigail Johnson, but both its boys and girls teams finished second Tuesday to the Celina Bulldogs.
The Patriot girls scored 70.5 points to trail Celina (89.5) and finish ahead of Elida (15). Celina (84) also won the boys competition in front of JCHS (53) and Elida (38).

Snyder swept the sprints for the girls team, winning the 100-meter dash in 13.05 seconds and the 200 dash in 27.7. Johnson handled the distance events, posting winning times of 5 minutes, 45 seconds in the 1,600 run and 12:47 in the 3,200 run.
Shreve won the 110 hurdles for the boys team in 15.91 and the 300 hurdles in 41.73.
Also adding victories for Jay County were Amber Huelskamp and Ciera Barcus for the girls, and Andrew Eley, Cade Price and Tyler Back for the boys.

Trewyn leads WJMS
SELMA — Andrew Trewyn took the top spot in a pair of field events as the West Jay Middle School boys track team defeated Selma 57-43. Field events were also key for the girls in a 51-49 win.
Trewyn took first place for the Eagle boys in the shot put and the high jump. Tyler Lowe and Justin Crouch teamed with him for the field-event sweep as they won the discus and long jump respectively.
The WJMS girls finished first in three field events, with Sammi Back taking the shot put at 23 feet, 1 inch, and Lillian Rogers winning the discus at 65 feet. Kimber Harris turned in a leap of 4 feet, 5 inches, to win the high jump.
Other wins came from Colt Meranda, Nick Hayden and Tanner Craw for the boys team, and Jocelyn Huey and Katie Hamilton for the girls.[[In-content Ad]]
