MUNCIE — The Patriots have competed in three invitational tournaments this year. They’ve won two of them.
Jay County High School’s wrestling team won every match by at least 20 points Saturday as it rolled to a 5-0 record and the championship at the Delta Duals.
The Patriots, who also won the Spencer Haworth Invitational hosted by South Adams, opened with a 52-29 victory over the host Eagles. They went on to defeat Greenwood 51-30, Triton 69-10, Greensburg 59-21 and Fort Wayne North Side 66-18.
Eight JCHS wrestlers went undefeated on the day as the team improved to 13-4.
Eric Hemmelgarn (HWT), Kyle Garringer (220), Alex Abbott (113), Zach Metcalf (160), Corey Bellis (152), Jesse Finnerty (145), Conner Ray (120) and Hunter Gillette (182) all finished with perfect 5-0 marks.
Also turning in winning records at 3-2 were Colton Compton (106) and John Blankenship (195).

Starfires finish 4-1
NEW CASTLE — South Adams’ wrestling team finished as the runner-up Saturday at the New Castle Duals, defeating New Castle 41-40 on criteria, Alexandria 48-27, Richmond 53-30 and Muncie Southside 48-32. It lost 45-36 to Union County.
Klayton Hinshaw (182) powered South Adams as he went 4-0 with all of his victories coming on pins. The quickest of those came against Muncie Southside, as he won with just nine seconds left in the opening period.
L.J. Moser (126/132) was also 4-0 with three pins and a technical fall, and Sawyer Miller (113/120) added a 2-0 mark.
Mavrick Morningstar (220) went 3-1 with all of his wins coming on pins. Boaz Marbach (138/145) added a 2-2 record, and Gabe Schwartz was 1-1.

JC wins tourney
WABASH — Kyler Carvel lifted the Jay County freshman boys basketball team to a tournament title Saturday as he scored the winning hoop for a 36-34 victory over Marion in the championship game at Southwood.
The Patriots led after each of the first three quarters, but Marion pulled even with just 10 seconds to play. Carvel took the ball the length of the floor and hit the winning lay-up as time expired.
Carvel finished with 16 points in the championship game. Adam Dirksen followed with 14.
Dirksen racked up 22 points in Jay County’s 32-26 semifinal win over the host Knights.

Clemmons leads Jay
MUNCIE — Lillian Clemmons was the top scorer in the 10-and-younger girls division this weekend as the Jay County Winter Swim Team finished second behind Anderson at the Christmas Card Invitational.
Clemmons led the way with five victories, taking first place in the 50-yard butterfly, 50 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 100 backstroke and 100 freestyle. She, Ashlyn Dow and Ava Bubp teamed with Erica Hathaway to take the 200 medley relay and joined Leah Hummel to win the 200 freestyle relay.
Ashlyn Dow added wins in the 10-and-younger girls 50 breaststroke and 100 breaststroke.
Elayna Paro also picked up a pair of victories in the 8-and-younger girls 25 breaststroke and 50 breaststroke. Audra Bubp was first in the 8-and-younger girls 50 butterfly, and Sophie Timmerman won the 13-and-older girls 200 breaststroke.[[In-content Ad]]
