Patriots win on senior night

Local roundup

The Patriots celebrated senior night with a victory.
Jay County High School’s baseball team halted a five-game losing streak Thursday, knocking off the visiting Eastbrook Panthers 5-2.
JCHS (10-13) trailed 2-1 after three innings, but scored twice in the fourth to take the lead. It added single runs in the fifth and sixth for the final margin.
Landry Inman pitched the Patriots to the win, limiting Eastbrook to two runs — one earned — while striking out eight batters. He gave up six hits and two walks.
Senior Jordan McBride singled in his only at bat and scored a pair of runs. Jason Houston and Andy Haffner each finished 1-for-3 with a run.
The junior varsity team scored a 7-5 victory over Adams Central. Tanner Reynolds earned the win, and Josh Lykins, Devon Roosa, Lucas Hendee and Jake Carpenter each had a hit and a run.

JC golfers second
The Jay County boys golf team split Thursday’s match against its former Olympic Athletic Conference rivals.
The Patriots posted a 170 to finish behind Connersville (156) and ahead of Muncie Southside (194) in the event at Portland Golf Club.
Evan Mathias paced JCHS as he recorded five pars, included three straight to end his round, on the way to shooting 40. Justen Keller followed with four pars for a 41.
Four different Connersville players all shared medalist honors with scores of 39.
Dylan Friddle finished with a 44 for the Patriots, and Adam Alfont and Richie Carducci each shot 45. Mitchel Rigby added a 49.

Knights defeat Jay
FOUNTAIN CITY — Jay County’s softball team came back to take the lead once Thursday, but couldn’t quite do it a second time in a 9-8 loss to the host Northeastern Knights.

The Patriots (13-12) fell behind early before scoring five times in the top of the third inning to pull ahead. Northeastern fought back to take a four-run lead, and a JCHS rally in the final frame fell short.
Nikka Chaney gave up nine runs — four earned — on nine hits and three walks as she took the loss.
Chelsea Tighe ripped a double and a triple as she finished with two runs and two RBIs to lead the Jay County offense. Catherine Dunn had a double, two RBIs and a run.

SA blasts Indians
UNION CITY — The South Adams baseball team scored 17 times in its final two at bats Wednesday in a 19-3 victory over the Union City Indians.
The game was tied at 2-2 before the Starfires (16-10) scored six times in the fourth inning. Union City tallied a run in the bottom of the fourth, and SAHS racked up 11 runs in the fifth to end the game early.
Dustin Wanner hit a grand slam for South Adams as he finished 2-for-4 with five RBIs and three runs. Kyle Raugh was 2-for-2 with two walks and three runs.
Alex Augsberger earned the win as he struck out seven batters in five innings. He allowed three runs on four hits and two walks.

Taylor Guggenbiller was the lone Fort Recovery player to earn first-team All-Midwest Athletic Conference Honors when the awards were announced Wednesday.
Guggenbiller, a senior first baseman for the Tribe softball team, led the squad with a .465 batting average this season. She also totaled seven doubles.
