Pats at .500 after topping Bruins (09/10/04)

Jay County Roundup

HARTFORD CITY — The Jay County boys soccer team got the job done Thursday, avoiding a losing streak and pulling back to .500 with a 5-4 victory over the Blackford Bruins.

The Patriots (4-4) had lost back-to-back contests and needed every ounce of scoring they got to reverse the trend against Blackford. They led 3-2 at halftime, thanks to two goals from Trent Bailey and one by Sergio Woo.

The Bruins scored twice in the second half, but senior Chad Keen gave his team the victory. He scored twice after the intermission, putting the ball in the net off passes from Ivo Rangelov and Bailey to give Jay County the victory.

Bailey scored his first goal about 10 minutes into the game, tying it at one. Blackford went up again five minutes later, but Woo tied it off an assist from Bailey with 10 minutes to play before the break.

Bailey scored again just moments later to give the Patriots the lead, and Keen took control in the second half.

Jay County had 16 shots on goal, compared to just five for Blackford.

The junior varsity team lost to the Bruins, 3-0.

The Patriots will host South Adams in triple-header action Saturday. The boys will play at 10 a.m., with the girls game at noon and the boys junior varsity game at 2 p.m.

Brianne Morrical turned in a solid round as well, bogeying five holes to finish one stroke off her personal-best with a 50.
