Pennville winners selected

An oratorical contest was held Friday at Pennville Elementary School.
The girl winner was Allison Jobe, a fifth grade student. She is the daughter of Brian and Lisa Jobe.
The boy winner was Ethan Andreshak, also a fifth grade student. He is the son of Mike and Kerri Andreshak.
The girl runner-up was Ashlyn Denney, a fourth grade student. She is the daughter of Liz Denney.
The boy runner-up was Nick Hundley, a fourth grade student. He is the son of Deb Hundley.

Dean’s list
Kylie Gardner, Portland, was named to the dean’s list for the fall semester of 2012 at Indiana University East School of Nursing in Richmond.
Nathaniel Read, Dunkirk, was named to the fall dean’s list at Taylor University in Upland.
The following students were named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Wright State University.
Emily Schoenlein, Mitchell Sudhoff, Samantha Schoenherr, Melanie Westgerdes, Kelly Evers, Emily May, Jaclyn Brackman, Stephanie Heitkamp, Rachel Jutte, Kelsey O’Dell, Jill Post, Christen Wendel, Deanna Siefring, Zachary Guggenbiller, Janel Broering, Kristen Overman, Karissa Will, Janel Vogel, Curtis Schroer, Abigail Backs, Katelyn Jutte, Kayla Gehle and Haley Wilson.

Dare graduates
Fort Recovery Local School held its DARE graduation ceremony for fifth grade students on Friday.

Reading their winning essays were Drew Muhlenkamp, Josh Gonzalez, Olivia Patch, Olivia Homan, Paige Jutte and Ashley Dues.
Receiving extra recognition and medals were Josh Gonzalez, Claudia Jones, Olivia Patch, Olivia Homan, Katelin O’Connor, Chloe Showalter, Riley Dilworth, Kenzie Kaiser and John Knapke.  

Bridge festival
Steve Krull, superintendent of the Adams County Parks and Recreation Department, and Pam Krause, director of the Geneva Chamber of Commerce, are discussing the possibility of a Ceylon Covered Bridge Festival in honor of the only covered bridge left across the Wabash River.
A tentative date is set for Sept. 14. A “Dinner on the Bridge” event will be held July 13.

At Minnetrista
The Martin Luther King Jr. Dream Team Black History Month Kick-off Celebration will be Saturday, Feb. 2, from 9:30 a.m. to noon at Minnetrista in Muncie.
The free event will include the second annual Create for the Dream art contest, a silent auction, continental breakfast  and guest speakers.
Thoreau’s Walden: A Journey in Photographs by Scot Miller is on display through Feb. 10.
Hours are Monday through Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
