Petro leads 8th grade to title

MUNCIE - The East Jay Middle school eighth grade girls basketball team won the Boomer Tournament hosted Saturday by Jay Community Center.
Katlin Petro led the Chief girls to victories of 29-15 over Richmond Dennis and 34-19 over Connersville in the championship game.
The EJMS seventh grade girls finished as runners-up, topping Dennis 36-6 before falling 31-18 to Connersville.
West Jay's seventh grade boys fell 43-36 to Dennis in the opening round before bouncing back to hold off EJMS 30-29.
Petro scored 11 points in each game to pace the eighth grade team. Katie Aker added nine points in the title game, and Abbi Dunlavy, Tasya Smith and Abigail Johnson each had four points in the semifinal round.
Catherine Dunn scored seven points in each game as she led the seventh grade Chiefs. Breanne McIntire and Malarie Houck each had six points against Dennis, and Chloe Steigerwalt had five points in the loss to Connersville.
Nate Brackman scored 19 points for the Eagles (15-3) in the win over East Jay. Case Retter added five points.
Brackman and James Williams each finished with 11 points and 10 rebounds in West Jay's loss to Dennis.
The East Jay girls were in action again Monday against Muncie Northside. The seventh grade team won 18-11 while the eighth graders lost 26-25.
McIntire scored 12 points to lead the seventh grade Chiefs. Dunn added four.
Petro finished with 12 points for the eighth grade squad. Aker added seven.
Chiefs defeat MC
The East Jay Middle School wrestling team won all of its matches Monday in a 96-0 victory over visiting Monroe Central.
The Chiefs (6-2) won five of the six contested matches by pin, with Brentt Lewis (175) rolling to victory in just 11 seconds.
Conner Ray (90), Kaleb Toland (110), Levi Hummel (115) and Ryan Claytor-Tinkham (160) also added pins.
Eric Hemmelgarn won his match by injury default.[[In-content Ad]]
