UNION CITY - The East Jay Middle School sixth grade girls basketball teams opened their seasons Wednesday with victories over Union City Westside.
Katlin Petro led the Chiefs' A team to a dominating 30-13 win. She had team highs of 12 points and six rebounds.
Alex Loy added six points and four boards. Mikayla Gross also grabbed four rebounds, and Tasya Smith had a pair of assists.
The B team got six points apiece from Sara Bollenbacher, Justine Wallischeck and Cheyanne Dull in a 24-18 victory.
Snyder takes floor
CONNERSVILLE - Katie Snyder turned in the best all-around performance of her career and Payten Wilson qualified for a state berth as Gym City Gymnastics competed Sunday in Connersville.
Snyder had career-best scores in three of her four events in Level 7, including a first-place 9.2 on the floor exercise. Her 34.125 all-around total, which was good for third place, was also a career-best.
Her other best scores came with a second-place 9.15 on the vault and an 8.2 on the uneven bars. She also had a 7.575 on the balance beam.
Wilson posted a 32.95 all-around total in Level 4, surpassing the 32-point threshold needed to earn a state berth.
Nadlie Runyon added a pair of second-place finishes on the Level 8 vault (8.7) and bars (8.6), and Courtney Miles was second on the Level 5 vault (8.45).
