Piano students perform (6/5/03)

Taking Note

Area piano teachers’ students recently performed at Asbury United Methodist Church, Portland, for the Portland Center for the National Guild of Piano Teachers. This was the 24th year for the event.

Judges from Muncie and Findlay, Ohio, were selected by the Guild’s national headquarters in Austin, Texas. They rated eighty students who received certificates commending points of their pieces as well as offering suggestions for improvement. Students also received a pin representing the level of their programs.

Participating were students of Wanda Hall, Portland, were; Anna Culy, Katlyn Gray, Katie Alberson, Kyle Prifogle, Summer Roush, Amanda Alberson, Andrea Collins, Kyle Frazee, Molly Sanchez, Cassi Laux, Joni Degler, Lindzy Upp, Lauren Haggenjos, Holly Wellman, Rebecca Prifogle, Kassi Hemmelgarn, Austin Dunkin and Liza Haggenjos.

Lisa Heckman, rural Bryant, had Cheriese Hammeren, Allysa Evers, Emily Evers, Devin Broering, Logan Hammeren, Andrew Heckman, Cynthia Hein, Erin King, Megan May, Anna Muhlenkamp, Grace Stammen, Derek Broering, Kristen Dahlinghaus, Jared Hart, Maria Muhlenkamp, Maria Murphy, Whitney Schemenaur, Jacob Schmidt, Lindsey Steinbrunner, Melissa Tobe and Rachel Wasson perform.

Students of Krista Heckman, rural Portland, were; Haley Cox, Sarah Armstrong, Ariel Cox, Brigette Hart, Chelsey Keiser, Andrea Schmitmeyer, Deanna Siefring, Rachel Vogler, Maria Kremer, Chelsea Stammen, Emily Werling, Daniel Flesher, Sara Garringer, Macy Miller, Zack miller, Nicole Rohrer, Rachel Tobe and Holly Werling.

Union City’s Rebecca Burnett’s students were; Heidi Jones, Victoria Humphries, Kaelyn Humphries, Kevin Staner, Jodo Schmitz, Whitney Gelhaus, Janel Evers, Sara Schmitz, Angela Beanblossom, Daniel Mart and Aaron Maystner.

Performing from Bluffton’s Diana Huffman’s students were; Justin Smith, Derek Smith, Lindsay Smith, Allie Fusselman, Nicole Morrissey, Meredith Bock, Jade Cale, Danielle Cale, Jordon Streveler and Megan Hunt.

OPEN HOUSE

The Jay County Historical Society will host an open house at the museum on East Main Street, Portland, Sunday, June 8, from 1-5 p.m. The public is invited to attend.

GRADUATES

Cassia J. Alberson, a 1999 graduate of Jay County High School, received a bachelor of science degree in biology with a chemistry minor from Olivet Nazarene University, Bourbonnais, Ill., on May 10. She graduated summa cum laude.

She is the daughter of Jeff and Robin Alberson, Portland. While attending ONU, she was nominated twice for Student Employee of the Year by the biology department. She is currently employed by Pathologists Associated of Muncie, and plans to attend medical school.

DEAN’S LIST

Lauren Nicole McKee, Portland, was named to the spring semesters dean’s list at Anderson University, Anderson.[[In-content Ad]]
