Julie Pickett, an Earlham College senior and daughter of Portland residents Beth and James Pickett performed in Earlham’s Winter Choral Concert on March 7, in Goddard Auditorium in Richmond.
She is a member of the Concert Choir and Madrigal Singers.
NURSING HOME CARE
A free workshop “Nursing Home Care: What You Need To Know” is being held Saturday, March 20, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the Ball State University Alumni Center for families who have placed or who are thinking of placing a loved one in a nursing home.
Robyn Grant, former Indiana State Long Term Care Ombudsman and current USA Long Term Care Policy Director, will present the program. It is designed to give families the information, knowledge and support they need to ensure the best possible quality of life and quality of care for their loved ones in a nursing home.

VISIT VINCENNES
Students and parents are invited to Vincennes University for Spring Pre-VU Days on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20 and again on Friday, April 16 and Saturday, April 17. The events will begin with check in between 8 and 9 a.m.
Visitors will tour the campus and meet faculty. Representatives from student services such as housing and financial aid will be available with information.

CHILD AMBASSADOR
Foresters Champions Across America, a national Children’s Miracle Network Program, selected Alexa Shank of Franklin to serve as Indiana’s ambassador for children’s hospitals across America.
Alexa is eight years old and has acute lymphoblastic leukemia. She began treatment at Riley Hospital, Indianapolis, in 2002 where she continues monthly visits for follow-up care and takes daily medication.
She will travel to Washington D.C. and Orlando, Fla. this spring to share her story and the importance of children’s hospitals.
The Creekside Elementary School Parent Teacher Organization, Franklin, honored her in a celebration on Friday, March 12.
GRIEF WORKSHOP
Adults who are grieving the death of a loved one are invited to the Adult Grief Group workshop. The group will meet every Wednesday from April 7 to May 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the library of The Cancer Center at Ball Memorial Hospital.
The workshop is being sponsored by the Ball Memorial Hospital Hospice. Call (765) 747- 4273 to register by April 2.
FREE TREES
Ten free white flowering dogwood trees will be given to anyone who joins The National Arbor Day Foundation during the month of March. The trees will be shipped at the right time for planting between March and May 31.
Members will also receive a subscription to “Arbor Day,” the Foundation’s monthly publication and “The Tree Book.”
To become a member of the foundation send a $10 contribution to TEN FREE DOGWOOD TREES, National Arbor Day Foundation, 100 Arbor Avenue, Nebraska City, NE 68410 by March 31.

State of the Heart Home Health and Hospice and the KitchenAid Experience Center are joining to offer a cooking class for men who have lost their wives or are primary caregivers and need help with food preparation. The class “Brunch with Bob” is also a way for men to visit and form friendships.
The six week class starts Monday, April 19 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at the KitchenAid Experience Center, 423 S. Broadway, Greenville, Ohio.
