Pitching paces Transport victory (05/29/04)

Mackenzie Loy and Abby Boggs shut down the Lehman and Bixler offense Friday as S & H Transport scored a 7-1 victory in Portland Junior League Major League softball action.

AmeriCare trounced Jay County REMC in the Minor League game of the evening, 31-7.

There were a pair of Sandy Koufax League baseball games, with Graphic Printing topping Lykins Roofing 10-2 and Portland Moose defeating Portland Elks 14-3. In the Rookie League Coca-Cola defeated Jay County Monuments 21-10.

Loy and Boggs combined to blank Lehman and Bixler for the first five innings as their team built a 7-0 lead. They gave up their only run in the sixth inning on the way to the victory.

Loy started and tossed three scoreless innings, and Boggs allowed just one run in the final four frames. Loy also finished 3-for-4 with a double, a triple and two runs.

Brittany Loy had three hits and one run, and Abby Loy had two hits and a run.

Ashley Augsburger finished with two hits and a run for Lehman and Bixler.

AmeriCare 31, REMC 7

Lindsay Wellman had three hits, including a triple, and scored three runs as AmeriCare scored nine runs in each of the first two innings and eight in the third. Cara Garringer added two hits and four runs.

Also scoring four runs apiece were Brittany Manor, Chelsea Burns and Latrisha McEwen.

Jessica Carducci and Abby Denney each had a hit and a run for REMC.

Graphic 10, Lykins 2

Justin Hall hit a solo home run and scored two other times for Graphic. He also had a double, a single and an RBI.

Aaron Daniels finished with two doubles, two RBIs and two runs, and Seth VanSkyock had three hits and two runs.

Justin Stevens and Brandon Simmons scored the only two runs for Lykins.

Moose 14, Elks 3

Cody Sutton hit a leadoff home run, and Moose never trailed against Elks.

Craig Permenter had two hits, three runs and three RBIs. Cole Ingram finished with two hits, including a double, three runs and one RBI.

Cody Bragg notched a single, a run and an RBI to lead Elks.

EJ still perfect

The East Jay eighth straight game this week with an 11-1 trouncing of Monroe Central. It is perfect on the season at 8-0.

Justin Mann paced the offense with an inside-the-park home run, and Billy Wellman added a triple and a single. Trey Dunn also had a couple of hits.

Wellman earned the win, allowing one run on one hit in three innings. He struck out six batters.

Adam Garringer struck out five batters and gave up just one hit in two innings of work.

Golf outing

State of the Heart Home, Health & Hospice will host its annual golf outing Friday, June 4.

The event will be at the Elks in Mercer County, with a shotgun start at 11 a.m. It will be limited to 32 teams.
